Wero
Wero is a European digital wallet developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). It enables fast, secure account-to-account payments and is designed to support a unified payment experience across Europe. With Wero, consumers can pay directly from their bank account using their preferred banking environment or wallet, while merchants benefit from an instant-payment-based solution built on European payment infrastructure.
Buckaroo supports Wero as part of its payment offering, helping merchants prepare for the next generation of European payments. This page explains how Wero works, how to activate it in Buckaroo, and what to consider when adding Wero to your checkout.
Static and Offline QR codes
Wero supports different QR code types. The two most relevant types are offline QR codes and static QR codes.
- Offline QR codes are mainly used for invoice payments. These QR codes contain the payment details directly in the QR code URL, such as the amount, description and order reference. The merchant can generate this QR code independently, without making a real-time request when the QR code is created.
- Static QR codes work differently. They are linked to a registered redirect URL. When the customer scans the QR code, the customer is redirected to a pre-payment page. From this page, the Wero payment flow can be started.
QR Service
Buckaroo offers a hosted QR image service to easy implementation and Wero branding requirements with the Wero QR Service. This works for both Offline and Static QR codes.
