Checkout order
The order in which payment methods appear at checkout is set under Payment method order in the module's configuration panel, and can differ per country. A Dutch customer and a Portuguese customer can each see their local method at the top.
Set the order
- Open Payment method order in the configuration panel.
- Pick a country from the list on the left, or choose All countries for the default order.
- Drag the methods into the order you want.
- Save.
- Check your own checkout to confirm the order is what you expect.
Only methods that are on for that country appear in the list, so if something is missing, check its mode and its country restriction first. See Payment methods.
How All countries and a specific country interact
All countries is the order used wherever you have not set something more specific. Setting an order for a country overrides it for that country only, and leaves everywhere else alone.
This means you do not need to configure every country. Set a sensible default under All countries, then override the handful of countries where your customers reach for something different.
A method you later switch off drops out of the saved order on its own. You do not need to revisit each country to tidy up after disabling something.
What order to choose
Put the method most of that country's customers actually use first. Customers scan from the top, and a familiar name in the first position saves them reading the rest.
Beyond that, ordering matters less than it appears. A customer looking for a specific method will find it wherever it sits. The cost of a poor order is friction, not lost payments, so this is worth ten minutes rather than an afternoon.
