Test and go live

Every method has its own Test or Live setting, and a newly enabled method starts in Test. Going live is therefore a change per method rather than one switch, and it has to be repeated for each sales channel you sell through.

Test your setup

  1. Enable the methods you intend to offer, leaving them in Test.
  2. Confirm each one is assigned to the sales channel under Sales Channels.
  3. Place an order in your own storefront and pay with each method in turn.
  4. Confirm the order reaches the state you expect afterwards.
  5. Refund a test order from the Buckaroo panel.
  6. For any method set to authorise, capture a test order as well.

For the test details each method accepts, see Testing.

Test the methods you actually plan to offer rather than the easiest one. They behave differently: cards stay in your checkout, most others redirect away, Bank Transfer leaves the order unpaid on purpose, and authorising methods need a capture before any money arrives.

What to check while testing

  • The method appears at checkout on each sales channel that should offer it.
  • The frontend label reads the way you want, in the languages you sell in.
  • Any fee appears at checkout and on the invoice.
  • The order reaches the right state after payment, and after a cancellation.
  • The transaction description in Plaza identifies the order.
  • Refunds reach Buckaroo, and the transactions list in the Buckaroo panel updates.
  • Captures work, whether manual or on shipment.
  • Any Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal Express button you enabled produces an order your fulfilment process can handle.
Go-live checklist
  • Credentials filled in and verified, on every sales channel you sell through.
  • Every method you intend to offer switched to Live, one by one.
  • Every method you do not intend to offer left disabled.
  • Methods assigned to the right sales channels.
  • Apple Pay Guid filled in, if you are offering Apple Pay.
  • Google Pay merchant IDs filled in, both of them, if you are offering Google Pay.
  • PayPal Express using your live merchant ID rather than the sandbox one.
  • Capture on shipment tested, if you rely on it.
  • Order state settings checked against your own processes.
  • One small real payment placed, captured if applicable, and refunded.

Check each method rather than assuming. A method left in Test still appears at checkout and still looks like it worked, so nothing tells you it is not taking money until you look for the payment.
